Allen College Chorus

About the Allen College Chorus

The Allen College Chorus began rehearsals in the spring 2009 semester.  Since that semester the Chorus has performed at Holiday concerts in December and spring concerts in April or May.  In addition, the Chorus has also performed at commencement ceremonies and other special events of Allen College.  The concerts are held in McBride Auditorium of Gerard Hall on the Allen College Campus. Allen College Chorus Members

The Allen College Chorus is comprised of students and faculty of Allen College; alumni; Allen Hospital associates; and members of the Allen Hospital, Allen College, and Allen Foundation governing boards.  Family members of these members are also welcome to join the Allen College Chorus.

Rehearsal

During the fall and spring academic semesters, the Chorus rehearses for one hour on Tuesday evenings, starting at 5:15 p.m. except during the fall and spring breaks.

Allen College Chorus Director and Accompanist

The chorus is directed by Ms. Jo Capoccioni.

         

The piano accompanist is Ms. Patti Weiss.

         

Scholarships

Allen College offers chorus scholarships to incoming and currently enrolled students who have experience as a chorus member and who agree to participate in chorus activities.  All Allen College students are provided information about these scholarships each year via e-mail messages from the assistant to the chancellor.

  • What size is the chorus?

In the spring and fall of 2016, the Allen College Chorus had over 30 members.

  • When and where does the Allen College Chorus rehearse?
We rehearse Tuesday evenings at 5:15 during the fall and spring semesters for one hour.  There are no rehearsals during fall and spring breaks.  Rehearsals are in the McBride Auditorium of Gerard Hall on the Allen College campus.
  • What kind of music does the Allen College Chorus perform?

The majority of the music will be from contemporary and traditional music canon, including spiritual music, contemporary music, jazz, and music from various cultures.
