The Higher Learning Commission Approves Allen College's Request to Start a Doctor of Physical Therapy Program
Allen College’s regional accreditor, The Higher Learning Commission (HLC), has approved the College’s request to implement a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. In a May 5 letter to the College’s chancellor, Dr. Jerry Durham, the HLC reported that its Institutional Action Committee concurred with the evaluation findings of a team of peer evaluators who visited the campus in February 2017.
Allen College has launched a search for a director to lead the DPT program. The DPT program director will undertake activities aimed at securing "Candidate for Accreditation” status from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The College must achieve Candidate for Accreditation status before students can be admitted to the DPT program.
In 2016 the College acquired McElroy Hall, located on the Allen College campus, from the University of Northern Iowa to house the DPT and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MS in OT) programs. The MS in OT program will move into McElroy Hall prior to the start of the fall 2017 semester and will graduate its first class of students in December 2017.
