The baccalaureate program prepares professional nurses who can practice in a variety of settings.  The program leads to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, which may serve as a terminal degree or the basis for graduate study.

Program Mission Statement

The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is based on the mission and goals of Allen College. To fulfill our mission, we provide a quality baccalaureate program that prepares men and women from culturally and ethnically diverse communities for careers in nursing. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program stresses the interrelationship of academic and professional studies to provide a liberal education with an emphasis on experiential learning and community service in a variety of settings with people from diverse backgrounds. Incorporated into the baccalaureate program in nursing is a firm foundation in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences necessary for the development of critical thinking, creativity, literacy, values, historical awareness and comprehensive knowledge of nursing arts and science. This will enable the graduate to meet professional practice standards and has a sound foundation for future study. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is dedicated to a holistic approach to education recognizing the uniqueness of each student, to excellence in education, to the utilization of and participation in scholarship and evidenced based practice, and to the promotion of health.

Program Goals

  3. Provide entry level BSN programs of excellence that encompass components of professional practice.

In concert with the Allen College philosophy and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program philosophy the graduate will:

Program Description/Purpose

The purpose of the baccalaureate program is to prepare professional nurses who can practice in a variety of settings. The program leads to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, which may serve as a terminal degree or the basis for graduate study.

Request a degree audit to find out how your previous college credits may transfer to any of the tracks to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. 

Allen College considers admitting applicants living out of state or country.

Applicants and current students must be aware select states require approval prior to Allen College offering online courses and clinical study in those states.  Additionally, a state certification or governing licensing board may also require prior approval for an Allen College student to engage in clinical study within the state.  Therefore, Allen College cannot guarantee out-of- state clinical or practicum placement.  Allen College also cannot guarantee students maintaining residency in a state other than Iowa will be allowed to enroll in online courses.

Applicants planning to maintain residency in any state other than Iowa, and planning to enroll in an online course or engage in clinical study in any state other than Iowa, should consult an admission counselor prior to applying to Allen College.
