Allen College Receives Guernsey Charitable Foundation Grant

June 12, 2009
The Guernsey Charitable Foundation has awarded Allen College a $10 thousand grant to purchase medical supplies and provide for other operating expenses critical to the care of patients at the ACE-SAP Clinic which the College operates in partnership with the Salvation Army in Waterloo. Earlier in 2009 the clinic also received a $6,500 grant from the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa to assist in the purchase of critical equipment for the clinic.

The ACE-SAP Clinic addresses two community needs: prevention-focused health assessments of area residents and training for mid-level health care providers. The grant will allow the Clinic to purchase critical equipment and supplies to care for medically underserved residents of the Cedar Valley. Since the clinic opened in October of 2008, faculty members and graduate nurse practitioner students have provided care for 175 residents. The clinic was proposed by Allen College faculty member Ruselle DeBonis, a family nurse practitioner who supervises students at the clinic.
