Allen College Honor Society of Nursing 10th Anniversary

 Nurse leader Barb Bancroft to Speak at anniversary celebration

altWATERLOO, Iowa—Barb Bancroft, RN, MSN, PNP, will speak at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International’s Pi Kappa Chapter, at Allen College, April 22, from 4:30 – 8 p.m.

The chapter was chartered on March 27, 2000, to promote and recognize excellence in nursing in the Cedar Valley. All Allen College faculty members and many students, graduates and community members belong to the honor society, including 150 active members.

The chapter has sponsored Nursing Excellence Recognition Awards during National Nurses Week, and a research day. It awards an annual scholarship for a member continuing her or his education toward a master’s or doctorate degree. The chapter also holds annual Continuing Education Unit (CEU) offerings and induction ceremonies. The chapter’s 10th induction ceremony will take place at the anniversary celebration.

Barb Bancroft has provided more than 2,200 continuing education events on topics pertaining to pathophysiology, physical assessment and pharmacology to healthcare professionals throughout the United States and Canada.

She has been the keynote speaker for the Association of Practitioners for Infection Control, the National Association of Biology Teachers, the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses, the National Association of Emergency Nurses and the National Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Bancroft also has held faculty positions at the University of Virginia, the University of Arkansas, Loyola University of Chicago and St. Xavier University of Chicago. She has provided courses on advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology and physical assessment to graduate and undergraduate students. 

Bancroft is the author of “Medical Minutiae,” a humorous look at the fields of medicine and nursing and “An Apple a Day: The ABCs of Diet and Disease,” as well as the recently released, “Live a Little, Laugh a Lot.” She is also a contributing editor to the 1998 edition of Beare and Myers, “Adult Health Nursing” (Mosby, St. Louis).
