Allen College to Recognize Community Partners, Student Service-Learning Projects

April 7, 2010

WATERLOO, Iowa—The Allen College Center for Engagement, Learning and Leadership (CELL) will recognize Allen College community partners during an event on April 28, from 3 - 5 p.m., in the rotunda area of Gerard Hall and McBride Auditorium on the Allen College campus.

Numerous Allen College community partners have supported service-learning projects developed and completed by Allen nursing students in several courses during the past academic year.

Students will display posters for their projects from 3 - 4 p.m., followed by remarks from Dr. Jerry Durham, Allen College chancellor. A program of recognition for the community partners and students will follow. The public is invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served.

The Allen College CELL opened last fall to expand service-learning and service experiences, and emphasize the importance of life-long community engagement. The center’s development was a collaborative effort among Allen College faculty, staff, and local representatives from Junior Achievement, Salvation Army, Volunteer Center of the Cedar Valley, Wartburg College and Waterloo Schools.
