Building Move Forward

December 14, 2009
Allen College’s plans for a third academic building are moving forward.  Current plans call for construction to start on the two-story building in late summer of 2010.

The new 19,000 square foot building will be located between Gerard Hall and Barrett Forum.  The first floor will include two 75-seat classrooms which will be separated by a collapsible wall.  These two classrooms can be converted to a conference facility for 200 participants when the wall between the rooms is removed.  The second floor will feature two 35-seat classrooms, 16 faculty offices, two conference rooms, a faculty lounge, and work space for staff.    The project also calls for one large classroom in Gerard Hall to be converted to two smaller classrooms to better address current academic program and instructional needs.

According to Allen College chancellor Dr. Jerry Durham, the new building will address a pressing need for more space to accommodate current and future enrollment growth and the addition of new academic programs.  Efforts are underway to raise the remaining funds needed to pay for the project’s cost, estimated to be $5.5 million.  About $3 million in gifts and pledges have been raised to date.
