Curriculum (RN-BSN)

A student must earn 124 semester hours to complete requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Allen College. 

Students attend a regionally accredited institution of their choice to complete the general education courses outlined below. All general education coursework, excluding Professional Communication, must be complete prior to beginning Allen College program.

  • General Education Courses: 52 credit hours
  • Nursing Courses completed at Allen College: 30 credit hours
  • Nursing Course credit granted through articulation agreement: 42 credit hours

Humanities (15 credits)

  • Written Communication (3 credit hours)
  • Humanities Electives (12 credit hours) Defined by Allen College as Art, Music, Theater, Dance, English, Foreign Language, Philosophy, History, Cultures, Civilization, Literature, Religion, Economics, and Communication Arts

Social Sciences (15 credits)

  • Sociology (3 credit hours)
  • Psychology (3 credit hours)
  • Human Growth & Development (3 credit hours)
  • Social Science Electives (6 credit hours) Defined by Allen College as Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology

Natural Sciences and Mathematics (15 credits)

  • Anatomy & Physiology I with Lab (3 credit hours)
  • Anatomy & Physiology II with Lab (3 credit hours, recommended to take at the same institution as A & P I)
  • Microbiology with Lab (3 credit hours)
  • Nutrition (3 credit hours)
  • Introduction to Statistics (3 credit hours)

Additional Requirements (7 credits)

  • Diversity Elective (3 credit hours)
