Admission Requirements - LPN - BSN
LPN-BSN Applicant Admission Criteria:  

LPN-BSN applicants must:

  1. Complete the required application process, including submission of official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended.
  2. Take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is required of foreign-born students and applicants whose first language is not English.  A minimum score of 550 on TOEFL or 5 on IELTS or its equivalent is required.
  3. Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale including the following courses:
    • English Composition
    • Oral Communication
    • Sociology
    • Psychology
    • Human Growth & Development
    • Anatomy and Physiology I
    • Anatomy and Physiology II
    • Chemistry
    • Microbiology
    • Statistics
  4. Have completed a minimum of 25 semester hours of academic credit from regionally accredited colleges and/or universities, including a minimum of 6 semester hours of required natural sciences coursework.
  5. Have attained a grade of "C" or higher in any of the following completed courses:
    • Anatomy and Physiology I
    • Anatomy and Physiology II
    • Microbiology
    • Chemistry
    • Lifespan Human Growth & Development
    • Psychology
  6. Have attained a grade of "C-" or higher in all other required general education courses.
  8. Must have a current license as a licensed practical nurse in Iowa.  Individuals are currently licensed when licensed in another state and recognized for licensure in Iowa pursuant to the nurse licensure compact contained in Iowa Code chapter 152E.1.  The Student Services Office will verify the status of each applicant's LPN license.
  9. Must complete, at the minimum, 45 semester hours of credit accepted by Allen College prior to matriculation at Allen College.
