Gerard HallAllen College is at the forefront of educating healthcare professionals in Iowa. The College is very proud of the quality of our academic programs and the special emphasis we provide in nursing and health sciences. It is an exciting time at Allen College as we have many accomplishments to celebrate and we are changing the direction of nursing and health science education in Iowa. We are offering our students more and better opportunities to reach their goals and embrace their roles as healthcare professionals of tomorrow.

I’m proud to share with you some of our accomplishments:

  • Gerard HallIn 2009, Allen College celebrated its twentieth anniversary as a degree-granting institution.
  • In 2009, we had a record number of graduates and our enrollment set a new record in January 2010.
  • In August 2010, Allen College will graduate its third class of students from our 15-month accelerated BSN program--the only one of its type in Iowa. Students enrolled at Wartburg, Central and Loras Colleges can transfer seamlessly into the accelerated BSN program and also earn a second degree from their home institution.
  • Allen College now offers five nurse practitioner tracks in the MSN program: family, adult, gerontological, acute care and adult psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
  • Graduates from all of our nursing and health science programs pass licensure and certification examinations at rates that exceed state and national average pass rates.
  • Allen College has begun offering a Bachelor of Health Science degree program with three tracks: nuclear medicine technology, diagnostic medical sonography and medical laboratory sciences to address growing shortages of these healthcare providers in Iowa and elsewhere.
  • Construction for a new building connecting Gerard Hall and Barrett Forum is planned for spring 2011.  The building will contain four classrooms, faculty offices and meeting spaces.
  • The Office of Diversity Services was established in 2009 to help Allen College become a more inclusive community.  Various activities are now underway to diversify our community.
  • The newly established Center for Engagement, Learning and Leadership (CELL) coordinates a variety of service learning and volunteer activities for students, faculty and staff.  Students enrolled in the BSN program can now graduate with honors by completing special courses focused on service learning.
  • In 2009 Allen College received a federal grant of $875,000 to extend two of our nurse practitioner programs via distance education.

These are but a few of our many accomplishments in the past few months.  Enjoy your visit to the Allen College website and come back often. There's always something new to learn about this energetic and exciting place.
