Position: ARNP Cardiothoracic Surgery at Allen Hospital

What led you to Allen College?

I was attracted to Allen College because of its affiliation with Allen, and the faculty had a great reputation for providing exceptional education for future nurses.

How do you think Allen College helped prepare you for where you are now?

I was a nurse prior to going to Allen College and I was able to work full time and complete my course work. It taught me how to balance home life, work, and education (perseverance).

What led you to this career path?

I started young in the healthcare profession as a nurse’s aide at the nursing home when I was 16. After high school I went to nursing school at Hawkeye Tech. After working at Allen Hospital, I became familiar with Allen College and what they had to offer. I went on to get my BSN and Master’s from Allen College.

Why do you volunteer your time to be on the Allen College Alumni Association Board?

I am proud to be an alumni of Allen College and I want to be a part of helping others reach their educational goals.

Any hobbies or interests?

I enjoy spending time with my 4 grandchildren (7 months, 15 months, 3 and 5 year old). I also enjoy golfing, boating, and traveling.

What piece of advice would you give to current Allen students?

Don’t wait until later in life to finish your education. Set your goals high. You can accomplish anything you set your mind to!!
