Accelerated Face-to-Face Option
Students enrolled in the accelerated face-to-face option are enrolled for four semesters and are admitted to Allen College for the summer or fall. All courses are taught on the Allen College Campus in Waterloo, Iowa.
Accelerated Hybrid Option
Students are enrolled in four consecutive terms. During the first summer, coursework is delivered in a hybrid format requiring visits to the Allen College campus in Waterloo, IA. Following the first summer, students periodically meet face-to-face in Des Moines with the majority of learning occurring in an online environment. Clinical components are completed each semester in the Des Moines area.
Students must complete a minimum of 124 semester hours of coursework to earn the degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Students must complete a minimum of 66 semester hours of general education coursework as outlined in the plan of study, including a minimum of:
- 15 hours in the humanities
- 15 hours in the social sciences
- 18 hours in the natural sciences and mathematics
- 18 hours of general electives (including a 3 credit diversity course).
Students attend other regionally accredited colleges and universities to complete the general education component of the plan of study. Students admitted to the Accelerated Option from UNI, Wartburg College, Central College, Simpson College and Loras College may also earn a baccalaureate degree from the institution from which they are transferring as well as from Allen College.
Students are required to complete a minimum of 58 semester hours of nursing coursework. Applicants are encouraged to consult an admissions counselor at Allen College prior to enrollment ensuring coursework meets the requirements.
