Allen College is located on a beautiful campus in Waterloo, Iowa, and is distinguished by its integration of academic excellence and professional preparation. Through innovative undergraduate and graduate programs, students gain the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed as compassionate and competent healthcare professionals.

Our website offers a glimpse into the breadth and depth of the academic programs and support services available to students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents and community members. At Allen College, we are committed to a holistic approach to education that recognizes the unique strengths, goals and needs of each student.

Guided by our philosophy of acting “in keeping with the true spirit of Christian love and service” and with an “emphasis on the art of human caring,” we strive to provide an exceptional student experience. Our academic programs and support services are intentionally designed to foster student success and prepare graduates to make meaningful contributions to healthcare.

As a leader in healthcare education in Iowa, Allen College takes pride in the quality of its nursing and health sciences programs. This is an exciting time for the College as we continue to advance healthcare education, expand opportunities for students and prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals to meet the evolving needs of the communities they serve.

I’m proud to share with you some of our accomplishments:

  • Allen College graduates continually exceed state and national averages on national certification examinations.
  • Allen College awarded over $850,000 in institutional scholarships to students in 2026.
  • The Van G. Miller Family Charitable Foundation Simulation Center for Clinical Excellence opened in August 2026.
  • Allen College was recognized by ModernThink® and The Chronicle of Higher Education as a “Great College to Work For” with Honor Roll status for the fourth consecutive year in 2026. 
  • Allen College’s DeBonis Free Medical Clinic located at the Salvation Army of Waterloo had 556 patient visits in 2025, serving the needs of citizens in our community who lack health insurance and healthcare access. 
  • Allen College welcomed 25 high school students for our annual Summer Health Careers Camp in 2026 to provide an immersive week of healthcare career exploration.
  • Virtual Reality experiences were incorporated into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing curriculum during the summer 2026 semester.  
  • The Allen Legacy Program was established as a partnership between Allen Hospital, the Allen Foundation and Allen College and it has awarded almost $2 million in tuition support to over 100 BSN students at Allen College.  After graduation, these nurses are employed at Allen Hospital.
  • Allen College continues to strengthen our rural healthcare workforce by expanding opportunities that were developed as part of Allen College’s Rural Grant Initiative which provided funding from 2022-2026.
