Julie Westin

Julie Westin, a 1980 graduate of the UNI/Allen School of Medical Technology, dedicated 43 years to Allen Laboratory, retiring in 2023. As Microbiology Supervisor, she mentored countless Medical Laboratory Scientist and Medical Laboratory Technician students and implemented a second shift in the Microbiology department, improving turnaround times and patient care. Julie’s expertise was recognized statewide, participating in research with the State Hygienic Lab and serving as an inspector for the College of American Pathologists.

A generous supporter of Allen College, Julie and her husband, Richard, have contributed to the Foundation, Donate to Educate, and the Allen Lab Scholarship. She is a member of the Allen Foundation’s Gerard Circle and continues to serve on the Allen College Alumni Board, currently as Vice President. In this role, she brings fresh ideas, supports events and champions fundraising initiatives benefiting the college.

Julie’s lifelong commitment to service is reflected in her volunteer work with Master Gardeners, over 20 years on the Allen Credit Union Board and active roles with St. Paul Lutheran Church, Amvets Auxiliary, Junior League, PADI and as a First Responder. Her legacy is one of leadership, generosity and community spirit—an inspiring example of giving back.
